The Story of JB's Best Hearty Hot Sauce

We've neither the time nor the space here to go into great detail about how exactly a former professional sportswriter came to become the maker of the world's best hot sauce. We can, however, give you the CliffsNotes version.

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, to two of the hardest-working and loving parents on the planet, JB grew up literally swimming in Buffalo hot wings. His Uncle Dick owned a popular tavern that served up countless thousands of the tasty finger food that  -- along with the storied futility of JB's beloved Buffalo Bills -- made Buffalo famous. And from an early age JB and his many cousins worked at the tavern, bussing tables, mopping floors, filling the Coke machines, stocking the bar and, when Uncle Dick wasn't looking, playing pinball and shooting pool. JB's Aunt Roz was the head cook and keeper of the peace, and nobody knew how to prepare and serve up chicken wings -- and the delictable hot sauce that she soaked them in -- better than JB's Aunt Roz.

Luckily for you -- and us -- a young JB was especially good at paying attention, along with playing football, ice hockey, baseball, basketball, hooky from school and, well, eating chicken wings.

Fast forward many years, after JB and his family relocated to Atlanta in 1976, and imagine not being able to find a decent chicken wing on either side of Stone Mountain. So JB did what any resourceful Buffalonian does -- he started making them at home himself. Soon, after many years of practice, he had perfected Aunt Roz's hot sauce, tweaking the recipe here and there in his own special way.

Well, whenever friends and family would come over to JB's home for wings, beer and football -- which was pretty much every Sunday from September to February -- they would marvel at how great JB's sauce tasted. JB's wife even started putting it on chicken fingers, chicken nuggets, fried chicken salads and even hamburgers and hot dogs.

Eventually, the proverbial lightbulb went off in JB's head, and, poof, JB's Best Hearty Hot Sauce was born.
